Champaign police made an arrest in connection with the shooting of a dog Sunday. When arresting the man, police found several firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, in his home.

According to the report, police responded to the Animal Emergency Clinic, which was reporting that a Yorkshire terrier had been allegedly accidentally shot while men were hunting deer and coyotes. The clinic reported that it cared for the dog after it was brought to the clinic for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The dog was shot in the left side of his back and had sustained an exit wound to his hind leg. Medical staff at the clinic indicated that the dog received extensive injuries and would require surgery.

Police acquired a search warrant for the home of Joshua Ingersoll, 32. During the search, police found evidence that the dog had been shot while in Ingersoll’s residence. Several firearms, ammunition and spent casings were recovered from the residence, including the AK-47.

Ingersoll was arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, cruelty to animals and not possessing a valid firearm owner’s identification card.
