Best Bus Stop: Illini Union

By Alexis Ramirez, Staff Writer

When it comes to bus stops, it’s all about location, location, location. Although it’s not the most serviced bus stop by number of unique routes located within the University’s campus, the Illini Union bus stop has won the category of “Best Bus Stop” for two consecutive years.

The Illini Union stop is centrally located, as it is north of the Main Quad, south of Bardeen Quad, east of Campustown and west of the residence halls along Green Street.

The routes that service the stop can connect commuters with the University’s instructional buildings, residence halls, Illinois Terminal, downtown Champaign and downtown Urbana.

All three of the stop’s boarding sites feature shelters that shield commuters from harsh weather, especially those gusts of cold air in the winter. Digital signs provide information about upcoming arrivals so commuters don’t need to check the times on their phones.

The Illini Union bus stop is an iStop, meaning anyone can board without needing to pay fare or show a valid pass or ID. The accessibility, features and the location of the Illini Union bus stop make it the best stop in Champaign-Urbana.
