Pop musician and founder of the Margaritaville brand Jimmy Buffett died on Friday at the age of 76.
According to a statement posted to Buffett’s official website, “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.”
Buffett was well-known for hits like “Margaritaville” — a 1977 tune that inspired a chain of Florida-themed resort hotels and fast-casual restaurants — and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”
Buffett’s musical style was described by Variety as “tequila-soaked” and “country-laced … tropical good-time music. ”
“Parrotheads,” or the artist’s most loyal fans, are known to follow a lifestyle defined by relaxation, positivity, cocktails and the Florida Keys.
