Actor Andre Braugher died on Monday after experiencing a brief illness. He was 61 years old.
The American actor is best known for his roles as Frank Pembleton in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and Ray Holt in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
The news was confirmed earlier today by Braugher’s publicist Jennifer Allen. Allen did not provide any further details about Braugher’s illness.
The Chicago native’s breakout role in “Homicide: Life on the Street” in the ’90s led to the actor securing prominent roles in films such as “Glory,” “City of Angels” and “Primal Fear.”
Braugher’s acting career brought him a total of two Primetime Emmy Awards out of 10 nominations.

He was additionally the recipient of two Critics’ Choice Awards for his performance in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and was nominated for another for his role in “The Good Fight” earlier this year.
Braugher is survived by his wife Ami Braugher, who co-starred with him in “Homicide: Life on the Street,” as well as their three children.
