Walking to class and around the community is a great way to get out and enjoy the fresh air. But when the weather turns, as it so often does, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is there with its fleet of buses. Through rain, sleet or snow, and much like the trusty postman, the bus always delivers on time — more or less.
As voted by the student community, the best bus stop on campus is the Illini Union. The stop itself is located on Green Street, just north of the Illini Union building itself.
The stop consists of three shelters, creatively named the North Side Shelter, South Side Shelter and Island Shelter, which are located in the middle of Green Street. The shelters not only shield bus riders from the chaotic Midwestern weather but also provide a place to sit during any unavoidable waiting time.
Together, the bus stop is served by 39 different routes — more than half of all that run. Overall, its location between Champaign, Urbana and campus and its prominent placement on so many routes make the Illini Union the best bus stop the MTD has to offer.
