Few things are as inevitable as MTD buses zipping around corners and shuffling hoards of students around campus. No other bus line embodies the hustle and bustle of the University quite like its namesake: the 22/220 Illini.
When class is in session, the weekday route — the 22 Illini — meanders through numerous campus hot spots: the Illini Union, the Main Quad, Ikenberry Commons, the ARC, Main Library, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, ISR, LAR, FAR and PAR.
The route connects the far corners of campus from 6 a.m. to roughly 7 p.m., becoming the 220 Illini immediately after. The evening route serves the same locales as the 22 Illini and runs at 10-minute intervals until 3 a.m. every weekday while the University is in session.
On Friday evenings, the 220 Illini takes on a life of its own, ferrying partied-out students from bars and shows back home until 5 a.m. Saturday.
Despite all the options to choose from, the C-U area’s favorite bus line remains an undeniable uniting force, making the University’s vast campus feel a little bit smaller.
