Five p.m. wasn’t a late enough start time for Chappell Roan. The 26-year-old rising star brought a crowd that filled the entirety of the T-Mobile stage audience area and then some.
Surrounded by phrases like “your favorite artist’s favorite artist,” Chappell Roan roused up the festival with upbeat pop songs during what felt like the peak heat of the day. Flocks of festival goers migrated to the southernmost area of Lollapalooza to hear her take the stage: Crowds spilled over to the clear, and soon enough, even the clearing was populated.
She opened with “Femininomenon” — a song the crowd loved. Any onlooker would see festival goers dancing, their arms up — the whole shebang.
Other songs she performed included “Naked in Manhattan,” “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl,” “Love Me Anyway” and “Picture You.” Throughout these, and including the transitions between them, the crowd buzzed in cheers.
“Alright, Lollapalooza!” Chappell Roan exclaimed, and these two words alone garnered a very intense cheer from the crowd. Even young girls, sat atop a guardian’s shoulders to see, were cheering the artist on.

Chappell Roan has been making music for roughly seven years now, with her first EP released in 2017. After opening consistently in Olivia Rodrigo’s sold-out GUTS tour, Chappell Roan has been gaining fame by the minute.
And the Lollapalooza crowd celebrated in it. Continuing to dance, jump and sway to “HOT TO GO!,” audience members made the letters with their hands in the air to go along with the beat. Heads were swaying heavily with this song.
She then moved on to singing “After Midnight,” a song off her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” Continuing to bring energy, the crowd was responsive to Chappell Roan’s stage presence.
Next in the queue was “Casual,” a rather explicit song including a line about receiving oral sex in the front seat of a vehicle. Children still danced to this, joining the more mature individuals in the crowd who stayed swaying on the beat.
Just a track later was a more popular song, “Red Wine Supernova.” With its catchy tune and lyrics, even more people started singing along during the heat of the day.
Immediately after, Chappell Roan transitioned to her most famous song, “Good Luck, Babe!” She was overwhelmingly met by a crowd who sang the lyrics back to her — an eruption of sound before the sun had set on the T-Mobile stage.
Two encore songs, “My Kink Is Karma,” which she dedicated to her ex-partner and their fiancé, and “Pink Pony Club” ended the pleasantly surprising crowd-drawing set.
She strutted off the stage in her signature makeup look and a colorful outfit, unique to the rising fan-favorite.
