Stolen car recovered; dog still missing

A vehicle that was reported stolen Saturday was found at 7:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Student Services Building. A dog, which was in the car when it was stolen, has not yet been located.

According to the report, a Champaign resident parked his vehicle at the 100 block of North First Street around 4 p.m. Friday. His 13-year-old Labrador retriever was in the car. When the man returned for the dog and car at 7 a.m. the next day, both were missing.

The vehicle is a blue 1997 Mercedes with Indiana license plates.

A passerby at the 600 block of John Street this morning recognized the vehicle and called University Police. The vehicle parked in a handicapped spot and showed no signs of forced entry or damage, but a back window was open.

Champaign Police received a tip that a yellow dog was seen with a man, but they do not know if it was the same dog.
