Money that was previously reported as missing from the Salem Baptist Church's Martin Luther King scholarship was not in fact stolen, according to its Board of Directors.
An amendment to Champaign’s municipal code on garbage waste hauling was deferred back to city officials by the Champaign City Council at Tuesday night’s meeting. The bill was one of seven up for vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
Urbana City Council members unanimously approved agreements with Mervis Industries, Inc. and the Illinois Department of Transportation, allowing for the construction of a public drop-off and buy-back recycling center at their rescheduled council meeting on Tuesday.
Urbana will now require property owners in portions of campus, downtown Urbana and Philo Road to remove snow from their sidewalks for accumulations exceeding two inches. The ordinance, passed by the Urbana City Council at its Monday meeting, will use these areas as tests for a possible citywide ordinance in the future.

Local communities would work together to protest an EPA permit that would allow the landfill to begin storing polychlorinated biphenyls, “a known carcinogen,” according to the resolution. The landfill is situated on top of the Mahomet Aquifer and “poses an unacceptable risk” of contaminating the drinking water for 750,000 people in 15 counties.
Champaign Police announced Wednesday that four finalists had been selected in the search for a new police chief. The finalists will be interviewed between Dec. 7 and Dec. 9, and the public will have a chance to talk to them Dec. 8.
Dissatisfied with the Illinois State Police investigation of a June 5 arrest, the City of Champaign is seeking a more complete report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
