Urbana makes changes for holiday season parking

By Carol Matteuci

The city of Urbana announced some changes in its parking enforcement plans for the holiday season:

The three-hour parking limit at Lincoln Square Mall is suspended until Jan. 1, although the restriction still stands from 3 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on days the mall does not open before 9:30 a.m.

There will be no enforcement of lots or streets in the downtown area until Jan. 1. There are still fees for parking at short-term red meters and fines for parking anywhere for more than three hours.

Free parking will be available in the campus business district – the area between the 700 block of South Goodwin and the 1100 block of West Oregon – until Jan. 1. Vehicles may only park in this area for up to two hours and short-term red meters are not included.

Representatives from the Champaign parking department said their year-round parking fee plans will not change.
