A Cappella groups work together on upcoming show

Tight harmonies, holiday spirit and a wide range of musical genres are to be expected from the upcoming “A Capella on Ice” winter show being held at the Courtyard Caf‚ on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

No Strings Attached and The Girls Next Door will be featured in the show, performing various holiday songs as well as covers and their regular arrangements.

Both groups have been practicing all week to prepare for the show.

“A lot of work goes into the process. A lot of toil and labor goes into making the show perfect,” said Elana Goldbaum, junior in LAS and a member of No Strings Attached.

Alicia Wojcik, junior in LAS and business manager of Girls Next Door, said her group has been practicing every night this week for three hours.

“This week is very hectic. In addition to being at rehearsal every night, we’re on the Quad from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to try and sell tickets,” said Katie Schneider, senior in LAS and director of Girls Next Door.

Despite the long and rough practices that coincide with preparation for the show, both groups agreed that many positive things come out of them.

“The practices bring us all closer together. Not only do we bond musically, we bond through making friendships,” Goldbaum said.

Wojcik said that bonding during the practices becomes especially important because the groups can help one another get through the most demanding time of the semester.

“It’s so much fun because we all are really good friends and we try and help each other out during this busy week, not only because of practices, but because of finals coming up,” Wojcik said.

Both groups agreed that with finals week quickly approaching, the show could provide a much needed break from the stress.

“We are all busy this year, but we hope to create a warm holiday atmosphere to bring the community – and especially the students – in to have a fun night before finals start,” said Russ Anderson, junior in LAS and business manager for No Strings Attached.

Tickets to A Capella on Ice cost $4 for University students and $5 for all others. Tickets purchased in advance through the No Strings Attached Web site are $4.
