“Google Games” to test University students

By Wesley Deberry

During a dinner consisting of University students and representatives from Google, the idea for “Google Games” was born. This Saturday at noon Google Games 2007 will be held at the Seibel Center, 201 N. Goodwin Ave., in Urbana.

The games will consist of three competitions. In the first competition participants will solve original sudoku, logic and programming puzzles.

Next the contestants will build a bridge from a random set of Legos. Finally there will be a contest that incorporates athleticism. Details about the final competition haven’t been released.

Through the different activities Google hopes to bring a taste of their culture to the University. The Games will challenge the minds of engineers. There will be 16 five-member teams that will participate in the 2007 Google Games. Winners of the games will receive duffle bags and a dinner in Google at Timpone’s, 710 S. Goodwin Ave., in Urbana.

While this will be the first ever Google Games, Google has used similar events as a recruiting ground for new talent.
