By Bridget Maiellaro

Another armed robbery occurred at 12:20 a.m. Friday morning, adding to the string of related crimes within the campus area.

According to a police report, a University student was walking on the corner of Illinois Street and Busey Avenue, in Urbana and was approached by a male holding a silver handgun.

The suspect took the victim’s backpack, which contained a laptop computer, a hard drive and other miscellaneous student materials. The suspect then padded the student down, discovering a wallet. He returned the wallet because there was no money found.

After the interaction, the suspect walked westbound on Illinois Street.

The suspect was described as a heavy set black male, who was about 6’4. The victim said that the suspect’s nose was pushed in, resembling a “boxer’s nose.”

“It’s best not to fight,” said Sergeant Morgan of the Urbana Police Department. “You need to collect as much information, visually, as you can.”

This is the eighth armed robbery to hit the campus area. The string of similar cases began March 30 at the 300 block of Third Street.
