Police: No suspect yet in ATM case

Police are attempting to identify a subject in connection to an explosion at the First Mid-Illinois Bank and Trust, 2229 S. Neil St.

At approximately 5:59 a.m. Monday, Champaign Police officers responded to a report of a loud explosion and smoke seen near the bank. According to a police report, officers conducted a preliminary investigation upon arrival at the scene. They discovered the ATM machine at the bank had been damaged by an unknown device but not breached.

The University and Champaign police departments’ bomb squad units were dispatched to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing a dark colored baseball cap, a dark colored or blue hooded sweatshirt, a white T-shirt, blue jeans and dark or black shoes.
