Local police search for girl missing since May

By Ryan Davis

The Urbana Police Department is still looking into the disappearance of Cheyenne Christine Pickett, a 16-year-old who was reported missing May 31.

“This is a voluntary runaway, and it has been for an extended period,” said Urbana Investigations Sgt. Dan Morgan.

A press release issued by the Champaign County Crime Stoppers on Sept. 24 has led to a couple of calls that the Urbana Police Department is following up on at this time, Morgan said.

According to the press release, Pickett could be receiving refuge and resources from her friends and acquaintances in Urbana, Champaign, Rantoul or her former hometown of Monticello.

Anyone who is found guilty of harboring a runaway in Illinois is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor, according to the state’s Criminal Code.

“We’ve had reports that she is in the area,” said Morgan.
