Power outage leaves Champaign dark

By Brittany Abeijon

A power outage started at noon today affecting people primarily in downtown Champaign.

Leigh Morris, spokesman for Ameren IP said the power outage affected approximately 2,300 people.

The outage is what is known as a “device outage” meaning a fuse or circuit breaker stopped functioning, but the cause is unknown at this time.

“Our first priority is to get power back to the people,” Morris said.

Apartments owned by Campus Property Management were involved and tenants were instructed to contact Ameren IP for more information.
