Unusual weather hits Champaign

By Melissa Silverberg

Strange weather changes including rain, thunderstorms, fog, and snow have hit the Champaign-Urbana area making for a very unusual start to the month of February.

Mike Sola, the weather producer for WILL-AM-FM said that the strange weather mainly has to do with violent changes in the jetstream. He explained that over the next few days the temperature will be more average for February which means in the low 30s.

Sola said that overnight the rain will change to snow, accumulating to an inch or two by tomorrow afternoon.

“People can’t do a whole lot,” Sola said. “But it is unusual that we have had so many rainy and snowy days.”

According to Sola, the Champaign area has already received above average precipitation for the month of February, over 2 inches already.
