A former elementary school teacher has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for sexually abusing eight of his students at an Urbana school.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jon Andrew White pleaded guilty in February to eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of his students in 2005 and 2006. He was sentenced Friday afternoon in Urbana.

White also has pleaded guilty to two counts of the same crime for abusing students at a school in Normal, near Bloomington, in 2004 and 2005.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case late this month and faces up to 14 more years in prison.

White, who is a married father, lives in Villa Grove about 20 miles south Champaign.
