Champaign woman found unconscious, dies in hospital

By Eric Anderson

Urbana police officers found a white female lying in the middle of the street at the 1200 Block of East Florida Avenue, early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, officers found the woman unconscious due to several injuries, including an injury to her head. Medical personnel transported her to Carle hospital for treatment. The woman was identified as Lynda Day, a 47-year-old Champaign resident.

Investigative efforts have revealed that Day was hanging onto or reaching into the open driver’s side window of a dark colored pickup truck. The truck was leaving northbound out of the Crestwood Commons apartment complex. During or shortly after the truck turned west onto Florida Avenue, Day fell onto the roadway. Day died at Carle hospital, Thursday evening.

An autopsy was performed Friday revealed the preliminary cause of death to be blunt force trauma. The injuries and trauma were consistent with the fall from the truck.

The driver of the truck has not yet come forward at the time of the report.
