CCC to vote on budget for fiscal year

By Eric Heisig

The Champaign City Council will vote on a number of ordinances at their meeting Tuesday night pertaining to the budget for Fiscal Year 2008/09.

The expenditures for the fiscal year, not including interfund transfers, will be $120,343,650. This includes a $29 million budget for the Capital Improvement Plan, a program to fund various construction and maintenance issues around the city. Over 10 years, the program will cost around $227 million.

In addition, the General Operating Fund will have $68,674,273 for the fiscal year.

Other ordinances on the agenda for Tuesday night’s meeting include establishing pay rates for city of Champaign and Champaign Public Library employees and approving the aforementioned Capital Improvement Plan and its policies.

At a study session on May 20, the Council unanimously voted to move the budget to a regular meeting for approval. None of the Council members expressed any concern. If passed, the new budget will begin on July 1.
