CCC to examine Curtis Road resolution

By Eric Heisig

The Champaign City Council is set to vote on a number of issues during its meeting Tuesday night.

The Council will be looking at approving a resolution approving a plan for improvements to Curtis Road from Wynstone Drive to Wesley Avenue. The project is part of an intergovernmental agreement between the city of Champaign, the village of Savoy and Champaign County.

The resolution will also provide a clause for the acquisition of private property in order to improve the area, which will cost the city $780,000 to purchase. The whole project of widening and paving Curtis Road in that area is scheduled to begin in January 2009, and will cost the city more than $12 million.

The Council will also be looking at the 2008 Storm Sewer Rehabilitation Project, a nearly $350,000 project aimed to repair and perform maintenance around sewers in Champaign. The project went to Duce Construction Company, who said they could do the project for the least amount of money.

Champaign City Council meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the City Building.
