First part of Research Park Concert Series set for Friday

By Joanna Aguirre

A concert will be held in Research Park on Friday July 11th, where John Hoeffleur and Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys will perform.

Fox-Atkins Development along with the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts are hosting the three-concert series; the second will take place on July 25 and the third will be held on August 8.

The concert series, sponsored by Caterpillar, the University of Illinois’ Research Park and Busey Bank, is free to the public.

This is the second year the concerts have been held. An estimated 1000 people attended each concert last year, said Denise DeVries, Fox-Atkins Development business development specialist.

“We wanted to create a fun, comfortable environment for families to relax and enjoy,” she said.

The concert will be located just off of First Avenue behind Research Park’s SAIC building beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano will have a booth at the concert with food, wine and beer available for purchase.

Krannert will also have a tent set up, along with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.

“We encourage members of the community to come out and bring their lawn chairs and blankets and simply relax with us,” said DeVries.
