Champaign man killed in shooting Wednesday night

Champaign police stated Thursday that Gregory Moore, 28, was killed in a shooting at 10:58 p.m. Wednesday.

Moore, of Champaign, was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana Wednesday. Thursday’s preliminary autopsy show Moore died from a gunshot wound resulting from the incident Wednesday night according to the Champaign County Coroner Duane Northup.

The shooting took place at the 200 block of Roper Street and according to the report, Moore was shot in a white van.

There is an additional 21-year-old victim in the shooting. The 21-year old was found in the 1400 block of N. Champaign after being shot in the 200 block of Roper.

The identity of the victim is being withheld by police.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting as has not been apprehended.

Moore was in prison for 10 year following his participation in the murder of Jimmy Lee Hannah, then 24, in the north part of Champaign on Dec. 23, 1994.

Champaign police have blocked off Roper Street from Market Street to the railroad tracks for the investigation.

When contacted Thursday, Champaign police would not comment on the condition of the 21-year old and had no further information to divulge about the shooting.
