Former University football player charged in rapes

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward County authorities say DNA evidence links a former football player to four brutal rapes.

Steven Lamont Feagin is accused of raping three women in Illinois between 1993 and 1995 and another woman in Pompano Beach last year. He was arrested at a Pompano Beach car wash and was held late Tuesday without bail.

The 38-year-old was a former Deerfield Beach High star athlete and University of Illinois football player.

His arrest report says Feagin raped his victims at gunpoint and used a cloth soaked in a chemical to knock out the Florida woman.

Officials linked the four separate rapes this summer after processing a DNA sample from the Broward County assault through a national DNA database.
