UI President White keeps Global Campus off Trustee’s agenda

By Melissa Silverberg

University President B. Joseph White said Tuesday afternoon that he has decided not to put the issue of independent accreditation for Global Campus on the agenda for next week’s Board of Trustee’s meeting.

This decision was contrary to White’s decision at Monday’s meeting of the Urbana-Champaign Senate, where he said he would be taking the issue of accreditation for Global Campus to the Board of Trustees despite the disapproval from the faculty senates of both the Urbana and Springfield campuses.

However, White said he reflected on the issue overnight and changed his mind.

Instead there will be a meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee during the BOT meeting where they will discuss the current situation of Global Campus. At this meeting White will describe the alternative solutions to Global Campus’s problems, which includes the option of accreditation.

“I think it will be good for the Board to understand the current situation and the faculty’s advice,” White said. “It will be a discussion without the pressure of an action item.”
