Friday’s fire in downtown Champaign remains under investigation.

The fire started in the Metropolitan building, which includes the addresses 109 and 111 W. Church St., 219, 221 and 223 Neil Street.

According to a news release, the fire caused over $3.5 million in damages, and insurance companies are involved. Investigators may need to use equipment to aid in the excavation.
