CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Police say a Champaign man was shot to death in front of his two young children.

Champaign police Deputy Chief Troy Daniels says two men shot 34-year-old James Ellis to death around 1:20 Friday morning at his home on the north side of Champaign. The children are 9 and 11.

Daniels says the men who shot Ellis were in their late teens or early 20s. Daniels says one of the men pointed a gun at the children and threatened them.

Police haven’t released any information on possible motives behind the shooting.
