Champaign activates emergency snow routes

By Hannah Hess

A heavy snowfall activated emergency snow routes for the city of Champaign, as of 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Residents are warned to remove vehicles from the affected streets by 7:00 p.m. so overnight plowing can occur.

Snowplows are currently working to clear primary street routes. By tomorrow, many of the secondary streets should be plowed.

Property owners have been told to clear sidewalks, in accordance with the city’s Snow and Ice Control Plan. Under the plan, property owners have 48 hours to clear sidewalks adjacent to their property when 2 or more inches of snow accumulate.
