University quartet wins Grammy

By Stephen Spector

You might not of caught them on the red carpet, but the University was well-represented at the Grammy Award show last night.

The Pacifica Quartet, the faculty quartet in residence at the University’s School of Music, won the 2009 Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance, according to a press release by the University’s news bureau.

The group won for its recording of Elliott Carter’s String Quartets Nos. 1 and 5.

This is not the first time the group has snatched a prestigious award. Pacifica was named the Ensemble of the Year by Musical America last November.

Members of the group include cellist Brandon Vamos, Masumi Per Rostad on the viola and violinists Sibbi Bernhardsson and Simin Ganatra.
