Iowa inmate charged with murder of Champaign couple

By The Associated Press

URBANA, Ill. -A 51-year-old Iowa prison inmate has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of a Champaign couple.

Russell Lee Pitcher is the third person charged in the July 2006 deaths of Sue and Jeremiah Haigh.

Champaign County prosecutor Troy Lozar says he’s waiting to learn if Pitcher will voluntarily come to Illinois to face the charges filed against him in January.

Pitcher is in prison for sexual exploitation of a minor.

Autopsies found Jeremiah Haigh was stabbed to death and Sue Haigh died from blows to the head.
