C-U MTD: Experiencing delays, but drivers being cautious

By Kathleen Foody

Staying on schedule has been difficult for drivers of several Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District routes Friday. Additional vehicle traffic on Green Street has slowed both the 50 Green and the Greenhopper lines, according to MTD officials.

“We’re just going to keep working on getting them back on schedule,” said Robert Patton, director of operations. “There’s just not much that we can do.”

With Campustown full of students in green t-shirts, beads and hats, Patton said he suspects people are driving into the area to check out the scene.

With more foot and vehicle traffic, Patton said MTD drivers were made aware of the day and are being even more alert than usual.

As the day continued, Patton said it’s difficult to know what to expect.
