A second Illinois resident has died of complications from the H1N1 virus, more commonly known as swine flu.
The person was a resident of suburban Cook County, said Melaney Arnold of the Illinois Department of Public Health. They had preexisting medical conditions that made them more susceptible to the virus, she said.
The state’s first swine flu death, in Chicago, was reported Monday. The total number of cases in Illinois now stands at 976, Arnold said.
