Quinn, Simon to visit U of I

Gov. Pat Quinn and Sheila Simon, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, are scheduled to discuss their campaign in the Pine Lounge of the Illini Union at 1:40 p.m. today.

Simon, who is the daughter of the late Sen. Paul Simon will be Quinn’s running mate in the general election in opposition to the Republican nominee Bill Brady and his 27-year-old running mate Scott Plummer.

Quinn and Simon have partnered together in the past. Simon helped lead Quinn’s Illinois Reform Commission. She fought for the passage of major reforms that made government more transparent, reformed the process of contract procurement and placed the first limitations on campaign contributions in the history of Illinois. In the past, Simon was a prosecutor and law professor who educated herself about criminal justice issues.

These Democratic politicians are scheduled to appear in Chicago, Carbondale, Rockford, Moline and Cahokia.
