Chief of Police Barbara O’Connor issued the Champaign and University of Illinois Police departments most recent crime alert Wednesday afternoon.
The alert was asking for information about an aggravated robbery that occurred near the intersection of Fifth and Stoughton Street at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim observed a person across the street from her who appeared to be intoxicated, stumbled towards her and grabbed her by the throat and took her purse.
The offender was described as a medium toned black male, early twenties with a short hair cut and a very round face.
After grabbing the purse, the offender then ran to the east and was not located, although a witness saw a light colored car parked near the location. The witness believes that the car may have been involved with the incident.
