Know your rights on Unofficial

By Faraz Mirza

Under the fourth amendment, police officers must have a search warrant to enter a residence unless they see a felony being committed.

Do not resist arrest by a police officer, even if you feel they have no right to stop you.

You do not have to take a breathalyzer test, but if you refuse, your driver’s license may be suspended for one year.

You do not have to consent to searches. You do not have to give permission to a search of your dorm, apartment, car or yourself. If you do, any evidence obtained from the search is admissible against you in court.

Under the University’s medical amnesty procedures, any students in need of assistance, including minors and students calling on behalf of someone, will not face any disciplinary action for alcohol use.
