Campus Safety Notice issued for aggravated battery

A fire Sunday night caused damage to the Champaign home of County Board Chair Pattsi PetrieCC. The fire was reported around 9:35 Sunday nighthttp://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2015-11-02/updated-fire-heavily-damages-home-county-board-chair.html. Neither civilians nor fire department personnel were injured.

Champaign Fire Department Deputy Fire Marshal Randy SmithCC said there was “moderate fire damage to the basement, extending up to the first floor into the kitchen area.”

Smith said the resident was at home when the fire started and was able to call the fire department.

Smith said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the department is investigating it now. He said the department spent time evaluating the scene and taking pictures Monday night; based on their findings, Smith will write and issue a report.

According to a press release, volunteers from The American Red Cross also responded to the fire to ensure all occupants have a safe place to stay, food, clothing and emotional support. The release stated The Red Cross is currently assisting one adult.
