Mobile educational tour HungerU comes to University for event

By Daily Illini Staff Report

HungerU, a mobile tour that aims to educate college students on world hunger, will host an event at the University on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Main Quad.

The HungerU tour visits universities around the country to help spread awareness about hunger in America and across the world. The event will feature a trailer with tents and iPads where participants can take a quiz on global food security. For each quiz, a meal will be donated. There will also be a cornhole game and a prize wheel.

The organization is strictly mobile but HungerU works through the Farm Journal Foundation, which is based in Philadelphia. The trailer has traveled to over 60 campuses around the country and is comprised of 4 people.

Mallory Weber, HungerU’s program manager, said a major goal of the tour is to simply inform students about the nature of hunger in the modern world.

“We can’t fight something if we don’t know it exists,” said Weber. “We’re trying to get the conversation started, get people talking about it, get people involved through donating, helping out at food kitchen, spreading awareness.”
