By Daily Illini Staff Report

Antoinette Burton, professor in history, will chair the search committee responsible for recommending a new Urbana chancellor.

President Timothy Killeen announced Burton’s appointment in a University Massmail on Monday afternoon. In the massmail, Killeen said Burton has over 15 years of experience at the University as a teacher, researcher and administrator — currently she serves as the interim director of the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities. Additionally, she boasts several awards.

Burton was a University scholar from 2001-2004 and a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship winner in 2010.

Killeen said he looks forward to working with Burton and the other committee members. He hopes to have a new chancellor — who will take over for Interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson — “on board” for the fall 2016 semester and said more details on the search will be available when it begins.
