UI alumna to serve as new executive director for governmental relations

Lindsay Anderson, a University alumna and former legislative advisor in the state capital, will serve as the University’s executive director for governmental relations on March 1, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.

President TImothy Killeen announced the appointment in a Massmail on Thursday; Anderson was recommended by a committee led by Christopher Mooney, director of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.

As an attorney for McGuireWoods, LLP, Anderson currently advises clients on how to work with the government. Prior to joining the law firm in 2013, Anderson spent four years serving within former governor Pat Quinn’s administration, first as a legislative director and later as Quinn’s senior advisor.

She advised the governor and state agencies on legislation and oversaw the governor’s Office of Federal Relations, according to the Massmail.

Since 2013, Anderson has also chaired the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the State Universities Retirement System.

She was originally appointed to the boards by Quinn but continued to serve on both under Gov. Bruce Rauner. Anderson will resign from both positions before joining the University.

Anderson earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Urbana-Champaign campus in 2001 and received her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2005.

“Her knowledge of the University and years of legislative experience will serve us well as we continue to ramp up advocacy efforts to support our students, our world-class academic and research programs, and our crucial role in driving progress and economic growth,” Killeen said in the massmail.
