As Homecoming weekend approaches, the number of events sponsored by the University is beginning to ramp up. From concerts at State Farm Center to the football game against Minnesota, there will be plenty of things for students to do. Here is a quick rundown of some of the highlights of the schedule for the weekend:

Thursday, October 27

Dierks Bentley: Somewhere on a Beach Tour 2016

  • Where: State Farm Center
  • When: 7:30 p.m.
  • What is it: Country singer Dierks Bentley will be performing with guests Randy Houser and Drake White and The Big Fire for the first concert at the newly renovated State Farm Center.

Friday, October 28

Homecoming Parade

  • Where: The parade will start by Sixth Street and Lorado Taft Drive (in between the Education Building and Wohlers Hall). A map of the route can be found here.
  • When: 6:00 p.m.
  • What is it: The annual Illinois Homecoming Parade will feature the Marching Illini, Illinois Homecoming Court and many other student organizations. Michael Strautmanis, who has worked with with President Obama since his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, will be honored as a Comeback Guest.

Bowling Through the Decades

  • Where: Illini Union Rec Room
  • When: 8:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • What is it: Bowling and billiards with music through the decades, starting from the 50s through the present.

The 1975

  • Where: State Farm Center
  • When: 8:00 p.m.
  • What is it: The 1975, an alternative rock band, will perform at the State Farm Center as part of a three night concert series hosted at the newly renovated venue.

Saturday, October 29

Illinois vs. Minnesota Football game

  • Where: Memorial Stadium
  • When: 11:00 a.m.
  • What is it: The University’s 106th annual homecoming football game vs. University of Minnesota

Diwali on the Quad

  • Where: Main Quad
  • When: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
  • What is it: Celebrate Diwali, the “Festival of Lights”, with the Indian Graduate Students Association by lighting up the Main Quad with candles. There will be an assortment of Indian snacks for sale.

Pentatonix: The World Tour 2016 w/ special guest Us the Duo

  • Where: State Farm Center
  • When: 8:00 p.m.
  • What is it: A cappella group Pentatonix wraps up the three night concert series at State Farm Center with a performance as part of their world tour.
