Champaign police make arrest in 2018 homicide

A Champaign homicide investigation of a 2018 gun shooting case arrested 20-year-old Micheal Chatman for the offense of murder.

On March 23, 2018, Champaign Police found 18-year-old Urbana resident Ricky Green suffering a life-threatening gunshot wound on the 100 block of Apricot Drive. Green was treated with immediate on-scene medical care and transported to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The Champaign Police and Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office proceeded with an extensive investigation on Jan. 21, obtaining an arrest warrant for Chatman set at $1 million.

Chatman’s arrest was made at noon in Plano by the Champaign Police with assistance from the United States Marshals Service.

The arrestee is currently awaiting extradition back to Champaign at the Kendall County Correctional Facility.
