A campus safety notice about a robbery on Jan. 1 was sent out to the University community around 4 p.m. on Monday. 

According to the email, the incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 at the C-9 U of I parking lot, located at 505 E. Chalmers St. in Champaign. 

The victim reported that he was “walking near the parking lot when he noticed two groups of men arguing with each other,” according to the campus safety notice.

The notice also said the victim reported that “one of the men mistakenly thought the victim was involved in the argument. The victim was then struck in the face and knocked to the ground.”

“Several others kicked the victim and took his wallet and hat,” before the victim ran away, according to the notice.

The notice also said that the victim was not a University student and that the incident was reported late Sunday.
