At 5:18 p.m. on Friday evening, it was announced on the Graduate Employees’ Organization twitter account that the University administration had accepted the GEO’s proposal for a new contract during their 26th bargaining session.

According to the GEO twitter, the new contract “aligns with all bargaining pillars voted on by membership,” and the organization will “tentatively agree on all articles of the contract.”

This compromise follows over a year of negotiations between graduate employees and the University to replace their existing contract, which expired in August of 2022.

The new contract will establish working conditions and wages for graduate employees at the University, replacing a contract that was finalized in 2017.

In a Twitter video, members of the organization chant “this is what community looks like,” celebrating the acceptance of their “historic” contract.
