Armed bank robbery on Springfield Ave

Police responded to a bank robbery on the 1600 block of Springfield Avenue in Champaign at 1:46 on Monday afternoon. 

According to a statement by the Champaign Police Department, “a suspect entered the bank, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.”

According to CPD, no injuries have been confirmed and there is no evidence a gun was fired during the robbery. The suspect reportedly fled the scene with an “undisclosed amount of currency.”

The suspect is described in the statement as having been seen wearing gray sweatpants, a black sweatshirt, black shoes, a black face mask and gloves.

According to CPD, “officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance.”
