Deer breaks into Engineering Sciences Building

By Maaike Niekerk, Summer Editor

A deer broke through a window into the Engineering Sciences Building earlier today.

Staff members in the building assisted UIPD officers to restrain the deer and prevent it from escaping further into the building.

A video posted to the University Facilities and Services Twitter account showed two men quickly carrying the deer out of the building with the help of a UIPD officer.

The video also showed the deer being released just outside of the building, where it sprinted away from the campus area.

According to Facilities and Services, the deer suffered some small injuries from the incident but “was deemed OK.”

Though most students are currently off campus for the summer, many incoming freshmen were visiting the University with their families for registration during the deer’s visit to the engineering quad.

Apart from the broken window, little damage appeared to be done to the Engineering Sciences Building.
