Champaign Police responded to a single-vehicle crash late last night at the intersection of Green and State Streets. Two occupants of the vehicle were hospitalized as a result of the incident and one later died from his injuries.
The accident was reported at 11:01 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses of the crash reported that only one vehicle was involved.
According to a press release from the Champaign Police Department, police arrived on the scene to find a man unconscious inside of the vehicle with multiple injuries, along with another injured passenger.
Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for their injuries. While the 42-year-old Champaign man did not survive, Champaign Police report the only other injured passenger is currently in stable condition.
Champaign Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and have stated that further updates may be provided. Anyone in the area with exterior surveillance camera systems are encouraged to submit any useful footage to the police department.
