Former President Donald Trump has been criminally indicted on four counts, in connection to his attempt to reverse his loss of the 2020 presidential election.
According to CNBC, special counsel Jack Smith’s federal investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and other efforts to overturn President Biden’s win has resulted in Trump’s third indictment.
The federal jury reportedly handed up the indictment earlier this afternoon in the federal courthouse in Washington D.C.
This marks Trump as the first ever U.S. president, current or former, to face criminal charges, CNBC said.
However, this is now the third time that Trump has been indicted in the last several months. However, many polls still say Trump remains the favorite to be the Republican nominee in 2024, ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Trump is currently set to run for president a third time in 2024, despite being impeached twice — again the only president to have experienced this — since the beginning of his presidency in 2016.
