The Hub Champaign Daniel announced this afternoon that a resident unexpectedly died on the property this morning.
At 9:05 a.m. on the METCAD scanner, UIPD asked, “Do we have a suspect at large, or is this something else?”
An officer responded with “As of right now, probably something else.”
In an email sent to residents at 3:02 p.m., the building said it was “working with local officials in the lobby” and urged residents to “be mindful as they complete the necessary investigation needed.”

UPDATE: April 16 at 2:06 p.m.
Pat Wade, senior director of communications for UIPD, said via an email statement that University officers responded just before 9 a.m. on Sunday to a report of an individual found deceased in the lobby of an apartment building on the 800 block of South Sixth Street.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the death was caused by suicide. UIPD said that there is no information to suggest there is a broader public safety threat to the campus community as a result of this event.
Wade said that the death will remain under investigation by UIPD, Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Coroner.
