The University of Illinois Police Department arrested a suspect on Wednesday after a reported burglary at Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity earlier in the day.
UIPD wrote in a campus safety notice at 2:20 p.m. that a resident at the fraternity discovered the offender at 8:43 a.m. after the crime took place. The offender left the premises soon after.
UIPD released another campus safety notice around two hours later, announcing an arrest in the case.
“The suspect in this case was identified and arrested thanks to notifications from our community,” the notice read. “We thank you for your continued partnership in helping to maintain the safety of our campus community.”
The most recent notice stated that the incident does not present an ongoing threat to campus, but advised students to take precautions. These precautions include not allowing strangers to follow them into their residences, watch their belongings, lock doors and report any suspicious activity.
