On Wednesday at approximately 11:29 a.m., the Urbana Police Department was dispatched to the 2000 block of Vawter Street in response to a reported stabbing.

According a press release sent by UPD, “Investigation revealed that the incident occurred as a result of a domestic dispute at the residence.”

A 36-year-old man was found stabbed in the face. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, and is expected to survive, the release said.

Police identified 19-year-old Nikya Humbles as the perpetrator of the stabbing. A court-authorized search at the residence found further evidence of the incident.

Humbles was then arrested for attempted first-degree murder. She was taken to the Champaign County Satellite Jail and is pending further court proceedings.
